Gender and Gender Roles in Ridley Scotts Thelma and Louise.

" "Thelma and Louise's" incorporation of Hollywood genres into its discourse further complicates its process of challenging the classical paradigm’ (Man, 1993)

Now, i love this movie, i've watched it numerous times and every time i'm sure to find a new aspect of the film i can appreciate... The film centers around the relationship and lives of the two leading female characters, Thelma and Louise and can be seen as a feminist film...i was recently linked to an article my Glenn man entitled "Gender, Genre, and Myth in Thelma and Louise", in the article, Man basically asserts that the film challenges the traditional gendered roles that are practiced within society and reinforced by the film industry... it does this by "subverting the classical paradigm" (Man 1993, p.38)... i understood that to mean the "values' and 'believes' that are held within a society.
The film main characters are both alike and different in numerous ways, they both start out in (some what) subservient positions.. Thelma more so than Louise... Thelma is seen as dependent housewife, a traditional housewife who looks to her husband for approval. While Louise is seen as the more independent of the two (she lives on her own, and works as a waitress) she does possess certain traditional feminine qualities. Throughout the film however, we see them change from their initial roles to more 'masculine' ones.. i say masculine because their roles change from what is typical viewed as feminine roles to what is traditionally viewed as masculine roles (especially in the film industry). They shoot guns, they blow things up and rob stores.. (typical things found in male led action films.). In man article, he attributes these changes in their character to Thelma's near rape in the film. Man states that " the catalyst for the women's rebellion is Thelma's near rape" (man, 1993, p.40).
Growing up seeing women typical portrayed as the damsels in distress, it was very refreshing to finally see females take on a more active role in a film as opposed to being the 'arm-candy' of the male lead. Kudos to Ridley Scott for challenging the gendered myths.

I based my film essay on the construction of gender roles in Thelma and Louise (and the Shining) i  will post an update on that also.

JEFFERY CAMPBELL LITAS (SIZE MATTERS)

I recently ordered a pair of Jeffery Campbell Litas off SoleStruck and i absolutely love them, they're my first but certainly not my last pair of Jeff Campbell's.

It was a pain trying to find my size and an even bigger pain ordering (they were going fast and i had to get it before they were outta my size)

the leather is beautiful, the heel everything. the construction of the boot is perfection, very well made, and i knew i wanted one the first time i laid eyes on it.

Regarding my foot size, i mean, yeah, i wear big shoes, i'm a giant so it's only expected that my feet would match. This is a huge problem for me, finding shoes in my size is a bitch!, i mean, i know a few online sites that cater to women with above average sized feet but there's not enough!

I know plenty of women that complain about this, and i mean, why in Christs name don't these shoe companies make larger sizes?....

So anyway, Jeffery Campbell has a collection called "The Damned" and what it is, is basically shoes for men who love heels or feminine footwear. SoleStruck is the only site that i know of (so far) that carries this line and thats where i bought my litas, from a frigging mens line (not complaining tho, same shoe just a bigger size) the only problem was it costs about $10 dollars more than the ones in the female line.

they fit perfectly, and are easy to walk in. These boots are giving me life!!! *snap snap snap*

(biker leather legging from NastyGal, Mesh top with skull and hi-low detailing from a random store in Miami)

Jeffery Campbell Litas (i got em for $179.00 plus shipping cause i wanted em fast , so about $189 in total)

Get em here--------->BOOM!!!!   (also, they got cheaper so lucky you)

oooo yeah!

ABSINTHE NEW YEARS EVE PARTY OUTFIT

SOOOOOO.... Absinthe was fun, partied, got drunk, danced, ate, good vibes, good fun, good times.

but...that isnt the point of this blog post lol, the point is what i wore TO absinthe...

i got a pair of garter-esk tights (cause suspender tights are all the rage right now...and plus, i love em)... from ASOS, and paired em with a pair of wedges from the payless store, a faux leather cropped top from StyleSavvy and a faux leather skater skirt from ASOS as well. For my accessories, i didn't go like all "BOOM" in yah face bi-atch with em, just wore some gold toned bracelets and my Anne Klein two tones watch (i love this watch because it looks like a nice feminine bracelet, that tells time).

these tights are like seriously gorge...and only $14.07 ------> .get em here

Hearts and Bows Leather Look Skater Skirt ASOS only $40.44--------> get it here

So, for my makeup i basically just went for a nice dark smokey eye, and pink lips, contoured cheeks and overall flawless bronzed face .....lashes included of course lol.

For my hair, i tried finger waves at the front, they came out pretty well...i used the finger wave clips that can be picked up at basically any beauty supply store. Pictures below (over kill lol)

                                                               Dont you just love it!!!...

anddddd...i'm still not done. lol...also, forgot to mention my belt...i just saw it at this store 20/20 and was like, cute..love it...it makes everything so much more fun!

pow!...lol...

that's my attempt at the finger waves with the wave clips...love how it turned out... the rest was supposed to look much curlier but, i had like 30 mins to style ma hair (and it's a wet style so i had to use a blow dryer to get it dried fast), i used flexi rods at the eds but it didn't come out as curly cause it wasn't dried properly. blah...

and for good measure...another face shot lolol.. (trust me, i'm not conceited..this gurl has got serious self hate issues...but i love these photos lol)

where did you go for new years eve? and what did you wear?

hopefully my next post will be about my new Jeffery Campbell litas that i got and my big foot problems. Until then. Stay Gorgeous!

Rihanna Obsession ( feat Sally Hansen AirBrush Legs Review)

i swear, since this chick chopped her hair off, i've been in looovveeeeeeeee with tha b**ch, she can do no wrong in my book, queen RiRi all day every day.

In other news, did you see her Victoria Secret performance... Rihanna did that shit, i loved everything from the vintage finger waves, to the damn bronzing spray on her legs.  She came out fierce and stayed fierce all throughout the performance (both a them)

She rocked a nice bronzed flawless face, Marilyn glammed eyes, and dark vampy lips that matched her edgy personality to a T'

FRIGGIN FLAWLESS!!!.... i love the get up... and i'm seriously jealous of her flawless skin. i swear!

                                                                             Oh RiRi...

The bronzed skin has been in season for awhile now, and as usual, Rihanna rocks it so well, i love the toned down eyes and brows, all emphasis placed on the lips. The hint of gold shimmer on the lips, liner and natural wispy lashes , a nice contoured nose and BAM!!! plum. Yes, those lips be popping gurrrllll. LOVE IT!.

Now, i mean, we're all human, we all have flaws and isuues with our skin and we'd all love to wake up and see them gone. Well at least i do. so i recently (well not so recently) discovered (re-discovered lol) this product from sally hansen called  Airbrushed Legs, and what it is basically is a spray, a cover-up spray to hide the flaws on your legs (leg-makeup yaay).

For me , this is a god sent, cause uh, my legs arent perfect, and with this bad boy (err girl lol) i'm able to wear skirts and dresses and not feel insecure about how i look in it.

i absolutely love it. it gives you an almost satiny feel to your legs, and it has shimmer (some might like that, some might not) i love it!.

It isnt only limited to only your legs, i use it on ma arms too, it is seriously the bomb.com.

Kim Kardashian uses it to hide her psoriasis patches on her legs and describes it as a life saver. it comes in different shades : Light Glow, Medium Glow, Tan Glow, Deep Glow.

Before.

COCHELLA FASHION (MUSIC AND ART FESTIVAL)

The cochella music festival seemed to be a success (i wasn't there....wish i was tho ... *tear*) but moving on.
Tons of stars (and fans of good music) came out to listen to such names as Jay-Z, Muse, Gorillaz, MGMT and Vampire Weekend (to name a few). This years music festival had it's share of funky fashions, from florals to fedoras to maxis,  music fans came decked out in gladiator sandals, boots, jean cut-offs and headbands to be amongst Coachella-goers as Camilla Belle, Kate Bosworth and Katy Perry. Styles ranged from hard-rock chick to bohemian hippie as the three day festival raged on. Here’s a look at what some of our favorite celebs were wearing:

Beyonce watched husband, Jay-Z, rock out in cut-offs, a Wildfox Couture tee and lots of chain accessories.

Dita Von Teese was festive in a printed wrap dress, brown espadrilles and a sombrero-esque bag

Hilton sisters had a good time in printed dresses and Paris in Tory Burch flats

Actress Malin Akerman punctuated a triangle bikini top with a partly mesh ivory vest and haphazardly laced boots

Alessandra Ambrosio seemed every bit the model in a flirty dusty rose polka dot tank dress with tiered skirt. What helped amp up her minimalist outfit was that colorful fringed gypsy scarf.

Rachel Bilson looked cute in Ray Ban shades, a blue leopard tank by Brigid Castiis and Paige Denim shorts

Twilight star Ashley Greene earns points for letting her accessories take center stage including a fedora with patterned ribbon accent, fringed bag featuring a braided strap and tri-buckle short brown boots.

Katy Perry was ready to rock in a black studded dress complemented with studded sandals

90210 cast member Jessica Stroup played down the illustrated print on her mini dress by layering a light army green sleeveless button-up and finishing off with ankle cuffed sandals

Look Book Exclusive: Charles Henry Fall 2011

Meredith Fisher, the 23-year-old designer behind Charles Henry, has quietly been building this new brand after shuttering her original line, WAYF, which she started at the age of 17. Meredith has always counted on her garmento grandfather as an inspiration, and her A/W 2011 look book reflects this, with its crisp designs and clean tailoring....which i absolutely love
The collection is girly but not frilly, with watercolor prints, black lace, and pops of red. Skirts are short–call the length flirty–but balanced by blousier tops or shirt dress tailoring. The overall message? Adorable but never precious.

scroll below to view a few pieces from the lookbook..

My fave is number 21....loving the animal prints on the skirt..love the aqua blu as well....
whats your fave pic?....
